Class Descriptions

Gentle  Yoga

This class is for beginners, people with physical limitations or people who wish a relaxing slow paced practice.  It includes centering, basic breath awareness, joint mobility exercises, basic postures, and relaxation.

Hatha  Yoga/Yoga for Stress

Beginner level class suitable for most participants without physical disabilities.  Basic breathing,  joint freeing,  and simple postures with focus on alignment.

Men's Yoga

This class is an introductory and ongoing class, gentle to moderate level for men who are either new to yoga  and might be uncomfortable in the typical yoga class  that is 80-90% female, or want to focus on developing a practice specifically designed for the needs of the male body.

Moderate Yoga

This class is for the more experienced student who can comfortably practice a sun salutation.  It is a vinyasa format where postures are linked with breath.  It includes more advanced pranayama practices, standing postures, basic inversions, back bending poses, twists, and forward bending.  There is an emphasis on finding proper safe alignment in poses.  Each class concludes with 5-10 minutes of deep relaxation.

Vigorous

This class is for the experienced, fit student who wants a challenging practice.  It includes some vigorous pranayama and bandha practice, warm up sequence emphasizing hip opening, sun salutations A & B, standing pose vinyasa sequences, standing and arm balance postures, back bending, deep twisting and forward bends ending with 5-10 minutes of relaxation.

Yin

This practice was developed by Paul Grilley of Portland Oregon.  It emphasizes deep stretching of connective tissue in seated, prone, and reclining poses that are held for approximately 5 minutes each.  It increases the flow of energy through the nadis and release of blockages.  It also nourishes and lubricates the joints.  Yin Yoga may also be combined with 'Yang' yoga flows for a complete experience.
